Play and collaboration lie at the heart of my work. I am a co-founder, writer and creative director for the company Functionally Dysfunctional. I am also one of the companies' actors. Our company was set up to create the type of work we wanted to see and felt the arts scene was lacking. We use a mixture of scripted and devised work, often leaving gaps for improvisation between characters and audience. We believe that these live, irreplaceable moments are where theatre truly exists.

As a writer, I like to create worlds slightly adjacent to our own, places where the rules and flaws are exaggerated and the consequences magnified. This can be through fantastic curses, ghosts, memory or new technology. Tragicomedy, black humour and magical realism are of particular interest.

As a performer, I'm keenly interested in how physicality informs a role as much as a well-researched inner life. Growing out of the training I've done with physical theatre companies, I'm fascinated by the way games and physical tasks can be the founding layer of a dramatic scene. A way to ease actors in to finding the emotional weight needed via their bodies.
